How I work

Here at Clear Insight Counselling, I work with adults and young people aged 18+. I offer face-to-face counselling, as well as online and telephone therapy sessions. I use integrative therapy, which means every session is tailored to your individual needs, and I am committed to providing ethical counselling that values all diversities and differences.

Type of counselling I use

There are many different types of counselling used by therapists. The type I use is called integrative therapy.

Integrative therapy reflects the different needs and characteristics of each individual. It recognises we all have different preferences, beliefs and personalities, and that no single counselling approach will suit everyone.

Being an integrative therapist means I don’t use just one counselling model. Instead, I combine a variety of different approaches, including:

Person-centred therapy – this focuses on how you value and view yourself, your experiences and your world. It involves reflecting on your strengths and identity in order to encourage personal growth and positive relationships, and to build self-worth.

Psychodynamic therapy – this looks at the role of the past, particularly childhood, on present behaviours. It involves exploring feelings and memories you may not be conscious of, in order to resolve the issues you’re experiencing.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) – this examines the link between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and is focused on the present and the future. It involves identifying unhelpful thought or behaviour patterns, and making positive changes to them in order to improve how you feel.

How my approach helps you

I practice using integrative therapy because I don’t believe one single counselling approach can be suitable for every person and issue. Counselling should be tailored to suit you and your needs. By adapting my approach, and using different tools and techniques for each person, you get the therapy that's best suited to your personality and the issues you’re experiencing.

Whatever your reason for coming to counselling, I’m able to offer personalised therapy that’s right for you. This helps you achieve your goals and move forward positively.

I work to support you by:

  • Providing a confidential space for you to talk

  • Not judging you

  • Moving at your pace in therapy sessions

  • Asking questions to help you explore your thoughts and feelings

  • Helping you identify behaviour or thought patterns

  • Sometimes challenging you and the things you say

  • Sharing useful tools and techniques

  • Helping you develop strategies to use outside of therapy

  • Exploring your options and decisions

  • Helping you set steps to achieve your goals

  • Regularly reviewing your progress

Ethical practice

It’s important to me that I offer you the best possible service, which is why I adhere to the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society Code of Ethical Practice. As part of my commitment to ethical practice, I attend regular professional training and supervision, and I'm fully insured.

I have both a privacy policy and a digital policy, which provide details about how I use, store and protect your personal information, and set out online privacy and data protection procedures. I also have a client contract, which I’ll share in advance and then discuss with you in our first meeting together. This sets out important details about your counselling, such as data recording and storage, confidentiality, and boundaries.

Diversity

At Clear Insight Counselling I’m welcoming of everyone, including all races, cultures, genders, sexualities, neurodivergences, disabilities, religions, and any other differences that make us all uniquely human.

I will always seek to treat you with respect, and continually work to understand your experiences of the world and way of being.
