About me

Emily McArthur - SNCPS (Acc.), MBACP, BA (Hons), Ad. Prof. Dip. PC

I’m an accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor, and my private practice, Clear Insight Counselling, is based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Here's a bit more about my background and experience. You can also find out about my qualifications and training.

My background

Headshot of Emily McArthur, counsellor at Clear Insight Counselling, against a pale blue background. She has short brown hair and is wearing a bright blue top, looking at the camera smiling.

My first step into the world of counselling came in 2000 when I volunteered with the Nightline Association while at university. I was trained by Samaritans to offer support to other students, and it sparked an interest in counselling that has grown from there.

In 2012, I decided to turn my volunteering passion into a full-time career, and began training as a counsellor. I trained for three years in psychotherapeutic counselling, and in January 2016 I opened Clear Insight Counselling, my counselling practice in Leamington Spa.

Working to support, improve and increase awareness of adult mental health is something I continue to be passionate about. That’s why you’ll find me regularly posting about counselling and mental health on my Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

My counselling experience

After years of volunteering and over 10 years working as a counsellor in professional practice, I'm experienced in providing counselling for a wide range of mental health and wellbeing issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem and confidence, fertility and pregnancy, menopause, abuse, and trauma. I've also completed specialist training in bereavement and loss.

In my volunteering roles I've worked as a telephone counsellor for the Nightline Association, and spent two years as a bereavement counsellor for the charity Cruse Bereavement Support. I also worked for a Leamington-based counselling practice as part of my training, where I provided face-to-face counselling for a range of issues.

I’ve been a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2016, and in 2018 I became an Accredited Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), in recognition of my advanced training and experience.

In May 2022 I qualified as a clinical supervisor, and I provide supervision to student, newly qualified, and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists.
