Supervision
Counselling supervision is a space for trainee, newly qualified, and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists to reflect, develop, grow and be supported. I specialise in supervising integrative therapists working in private practice. You can read more about my approach, my experience, and what to expect from your supervision sessions below.
My approach to supervision
I believe at the heart of good supervision is the supervisory relationship. Together, we build a collaborative relationship that creates an open, supportive space where you can explore and develop as a counsellor. This relationship is particularly important given the isolated nature of private practice work.
Reflective practice is an essential aspect of counselling supervision, and the use of reflection (and humour) are a key part of the supervision I offer. Using reflection, we’ll discuss your work with clients, as well as any issues from outside the therapy room that may be impacting your work.
The purpose of our supervision together is to explore the different elements of your role as a counsellor:
Clinical – reflecting on your work with clients, including safeguarding and ethical considerations
Developmental – looking at your professional goals, identifying training and CPD, and helping to develop your knowledge and skills
Evaluative – using feedback and reflection to consider both your clinical work and supervision, including reviewing what you need from supervision
Restorative – identifying your wellbeing needs and helping to prevent burnout, including considering the impact of your personal life on your work
Supportive – supporting you to grow as a practitioner, and to start, build and flourish in private practice

My experience
I’ve been working full-time as a counsellor in private practice since January 2016, and as a supervisor since May 2022. I’m an integrative therapist, and consider the relationship to be at the core of both my counselling and supervision work.
My specialist area of counselling practice is bereavement and loss. In supervision, I specialise in working with integrative counsellors who are preparing to set up in private practice, or those already running their own practice.
I provide counselling for adults and young people aged 18+, and offer supervision to therapists working with this age group. I don’t currently supervise counsellors working with children and under 18s.
I work face-to-face, online and by phone, and can provide supervision to counsellors working in any of these ways. I’m also registered with both the BACP and NCPS, and require supervisees to be a member of a professional body, as well as to have professional indemnity insurance.
You can read more about my counselling background and experience on my about me page.

Supervision sessions
I offer individual supervision to newly qualified and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists working in private practice. I also offer two spaces each year to student counsellors on placement.
To help decide whether we’d like to start working together, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation to discuss what you’re looking for from supervision, and whether we might be a good fit. If we agree to continue working together, we’ll book in our first 60 or 90 minute supervision session.
In your first supervision session, we’ll contract for our work together and discuss in greater detail your past supervision experience and goals for supervision. We’ll collaboratively review supervision after the first six months, and as an ongoing part of the supervisory process.
In each of your supervision sessions we’ll discuss anything ongoing from the previous session, any safeguarding or ethical concerns and issues relating to your client work, and your developmental and restorative needs.
You may be required to keep a record of your supervision sessions for your professional body. It can be helpful to do this to identify your goals, recognise your progress as you grow as a practitioner, and to give feedback on your sessions.
Your supervision sessions can be held in person at my clinic in Leamington Spa, online or by phone. It’s considered good ethical practice to receive at least some of your supervision in the same method of communication you use in your client work.
